Artist Statement

My preferred medium is spray paint and acrylic paint on canvas. I love acrylic first of all because unlike oil, it won’t take a whole decade to dry! But acrylic is more fun to play around with, and I always find new things about the paint when I’m in the studio. It dries so fast which excites me and causes me to move faster and more instinctively. When you know that you only have a few minutes before a certain spot dries up, you start painting without doubts or second thoughts. This can create bold strokes and colour palettes that can compliment and clash with each other; making each piece eye catching from a distance.

I like to use an improvisational approach to my work to explore inner emotions, personal experiences and perceptions of my reality at any given moment. The main themes that I explore in my work are: social commentary, self-identity, exploration of space, geometic shapes, and self-expression using different variations of colourful linear passages while telling a story. As I’m using my instincts and intuition, often times I wouldn’t know how to express an art piece into words until long after it’s done. In a way, creating art is my way of delving into the confines of my identity, and learning more about myself.
